Interpretive Memo (6 pages) Discussion (1 page)
RESEARCH QUESTIONS
The central aims of this study are to [1] privilege the voices of parents of young children in identifying critical parenting knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP), and [2] explore ways in which family SES might shape parenting KAP during early childhood. Thus we ask:
How do families invest in their children’s early learning and development? Specifically, from the perspectives of parents, what critical parenting knowledge, attitudes (beliefs and goals), and practices seem to matter most? How do parenting knowledge or attitudes actually affect parent-child interactions or on parenting practices?
In what ways do family socioeconomic status (SES), race/ethnicity, and culture shape those parenting knowledge, attitudes, and practices in early childhood?
